About Me

Colston Julian was born and raised in Bombay into a family part Goan and part East Indian (a small catholic community in the city suburbs). He was a national BMX & Mountain biker and worked his way through college in an advertising film production house before he apprenticed with a cinematographer. There was never any formal training in photography. But this only helped him see things as he wanted. Differently. Bombay of course has had its part to play. The city with its urban energy, raw appeal and vibrant colours has only added to the image. Constant inspiration however, comes in the form of comic relief from Bill Watterson’s Calvin And Hobbes. To Colston there’s no better way to live life then in a make-believe world, where there is always an element of fun and something new. The big picture he sees is just that - an analysis of situations where everything comes wonderfully alive. Without isolating itself too much from the reality of things of course. Colston regularly shoots for magazines like ELLE, L’Officiel, Verve, Cosmopolitan, Vogue, GQ, Rolling Stones, Man’s World and Seventeen, to name but a few. His advertising clients make up brands like United Colors Of Benetton, Levi’s, Pepe, Kimaya, Tuscan Verve, ITC, L’Oréal, Catwalk, Enfield, Johnny Walker, Idea Cellular and Shoppers’ Stop. Designers he continually enjoys collaborating with are Savio Jon, Priyadarshini Rao and Manish Malhotra. Colston’s aim is to neither conform, nor belong but simply offer a point of view that is his own. He currently works between Bombay and his studio in Toronto.
