About Me

I have been an active Professional Make-up Artistry educator for over half of my career, qualifying as an academically qualified teacher at the London College of Fashion in 2002. I have taught in European and US locations and with many nationalities each unique market having a different perspective to add to the knowledge of Professional Make-up Artistry communication and education. I have attained a plethora of diverse communication and interactive training and education knowledge working for influential industry mentors and designing and delivering education programs for such prestige companies such as MAC, The London College of Fashion, Clydebank College, Jemma Kidd Make Up School and Isis Beauty Academy. The Monochrome method I have designed is a technical technique I have been continuously developing, evolving and observing in action since 2002 as a qualified teacher. It has shown me clearly that the standard of technical training delivered can elevate photographic results beyond comparison to allow novice artists to achieve a heightened sense of confidence to attempt succeed and execute their totality of Make-up Artistry designs and concepts. This allows the training Professional Make-up Artist to feel confident in the knowledge that their work is showing their absolute best potential. As a competition judge or external assessor at industry competitions such as Professional Beauty and colleges where I am often score and assess Make-up Artists work it is often apparent that fantasy and concept has taken over and technical skill has been the casualty. Poor line work, lack of symmetry, incorrect skin tone choices and lack of blending again highlight lack of focus and discipline to underpin the true beauty of the design. Teaching varied and diverse groups of ages and skill levels it has become increasingly apparent to me that the Art of Professional Make-up Artistry is highly subjective, and the core of that confidence and skill to truly learn photographic make up is the ability to underpin vital technical, symmetrical and graphic skills the camera demands. More now than ever with the use of High Definition HD camera. It is apparent that colour and texture can be distractive to learning and comprehension of method and cause troughs in the novice artists’ confidence. Colour is abstract and can be distractive which dissolves technical focus. The answer became clear. Education had to remove the colour potential and focus on a monochrome design. Colour could be considered and implemented at a later stage.
