Michal Martychowiec, born in 1987, is a Polish photography, video and installation artist, who lives and works in London, United Kingdom. Michal Martychowiec was born and raised in Lublin, Poland. In 2005 he moved to London, United Kingdom to commence his studies in Art at University of the Arts London. In 2007 he graduated from London College of Communication with a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, and in 2010 from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design with a Postgraduate Certificate in Photography[1]. From 2007 he has been creating number of topical photographic series, as well as video projections and extensive installations using diverse media[2] From 2008 Martychowiec has begun artistic collaboration with fashion creator Dawid Tomaszewski, becoming responsible for creating the visual image of the label. Starting in 2010, he has started work on a new art and fashion publication - Stage Fashion Magazine and a special biannual project - backStage Fashion Magazine, becoming its creative director. Currently he is working at 2 mixed media site specific projects - Gwiazdozbiór Łabędzia (Cygnus Constellation), Garden and a photographic project - Vanito Vanitas together with other photographic and video projects. Martychowiec is deeply influenced by work of various Japanese artists (Koji Kamoji, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Isamu Noguchi), as well as minialism art. He also expressed great deal of interest in the early and middle 20th century Polish art. A series Destination: The Magic Mountain was first to indicate his current style [3], it became part of an exhibition Awake and Dream at Palazzo Doná in Venice, headquarters of Signum Foundation. Following the exhibition a project commissioned by the foundation - Awake and Dream. Documentation[4][5] was created and followed by 3 exhibitions, 2 of them accompanied Art and Documentation Festival and Międzynarodowy Festiwal Fotografii FotoFestiwal (International festival of photography in Lodz) while the other was shown in the place of the project's creation: Palazzo Doná[6]. Parallelly, Martychowiec is collaborating with number of niche fashion magazines including: Kult, Futu, Tough Crowd, Metal, Androgyny and other commercial publications including European Vogues, Glamour and Vanity Fair creating, directing and projecting photographic fashion series, being reflection of his personality and interests in the culture of the Far East.
