Born and raised in Washington State Michael Thompson spent summers working in his father’s small portrait studio. After graduating from the Brooks Institute of Photography he moved to New York and began assisting Irving Penn. Since that time his work has been published in magazines including such as Allure, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Details, Vanity Fair, W, GQ and the New York Times Magazine. Additionally, Michael has shot advertising campaigns for many big brands including Gap, Jordache, Tiffany& Co., DeBeers, Rosiblu, Emporio Armani, Celine, Oscar de la Renta, John Frieda, Clairol plus numerous beauty campaigns auch as M.A.C. Viva Glam, Clinique, Chanel, Covergirl, L’Oréal, Aveda and Neutrogena and numerous fragrance campaigns including Elisabeth Arden’s Red Door, Unforgivable by Sean John, Chanel’s Coco Mademoiselle and “Lovely” by Sarah Jessica Parker. He published his first book in 2005 and his recent exhibition ‘Michael Thompson: 50 Cuts’ debuted at the Paco Gallery in Tokyo. He is currently based in New York.
