Peter Lindbergh was born in 1944 in Lissa, Germany. Trained as a window dresser and experimenting with conceptual art, Lindbergh moved to Krefeld where he bought his first camera and began studying Fine Art. Assisting advertising Photographer Hans Lux, he moved to Duesseldorf, where he began working professional in the age of 27. Peter changed his surname Brodbeck into Lindbergh, because of another photographer named Brodbeck who did not pay his bills and with whom he did not want to be related to. Since 1978 Lindbergh contributed to all major magazines including Stern, The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, Vogue and most of all Harper’s Bazaar. His client list for advertising campaigns includes Hugo Boss, “Giorgio Armani”;/directory/giorgio-armani, Calvin Klein and Jil Sander. Working for Vogue Lindbergh popularized supermodels such as Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Tatjana Patitz. Directing music videos for Tina Turner and the Toten Hosen his film ‘Inner Voice’ gained several awards. In 1996 he received the Lucky Strike Designer Award of the Raymond Loewy Foundation and one year later he won the International Fashion Award prize for fashion photography. Peter is based in Paris.
