Photographer, publisher and film director Rankin gains global recognition for his ironic, intimate portraiture style and is now one of the world’s leading photographers. As a leading cultural and trend opinion former he was part of London’s creative explosion which gave rise to the Britpop phenomenon with bands like Blur and the accompanying fashion boom in the early 1990s. Rankin established his reputation when he launched Dazed & Confused with his business partner Jefferson Hack in 1991, which fused the pair’s vision with Rankin’s photographic talents. His work has been presented in a string of highly successful exhibitions, ad campaigns, books and he has shot front covers for German Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Arena and GQ. In addition to that he also shot several charity campaigns for Amnesty International, Everyman, Special Olympics, Refuge, Women’s Aid, a recent project for breast cancer research and made headlines with his campaign for Dove showing women away from the usual stick-thin advertising stereotype. Keeping an eye on film making his first feature film ‘The Lives of the Saints’ has been shown in numerous film festivals, winning the grand jury prize in Salento. Rankin is currently based in London.
