CUSTO Barcelona – Bohemian Hippie On World Trip
by Katharina Withelm posted on July 04, 2009The highlight of the 2nd day of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was definitely the CUSTO Barcelona Show.
As one might have expected, the collection consisted of an enormous tally of different colours, prints and fabrics which made me feel like a bohemian hippie on an Africa-Asia trip.
As colour was one of the essential ingredients in the collection, they were featured as exuberant ones that were all richly expressive and full of succulent nuances with exquisite shades. Shades of purples were the most abundant in hues of violet, lilac, purple and mauve. The blue ranged from lavener to indigo, deep blue and navy, exploding into the turquoises and emeralds, which led to greens, from light to apple green, aquamarine and moss.
Pink was featured in pastels to cyclamen, leaving the viewer with a trail of sugared almonds and childhood sweets. The spectrum was completed with tropical touches of orange and yellow, splashes of red and sparkles of white light.
The clothes were full of detail. There were dresses inspired by the 1920s, asymetric tops, baggy jumpsuits, puffball dresses, tunics and blouse printed silks and linen combined with flashes of pure colour, shining crystals and metallic sparkle.
Besides the colourpalette, the collection was made up of of different prints – including galloping horses, loads of peacock feathers, microscopic plants and animals, fairy tale characters, dolls and Bengal tigers mixed with girl explorers, surf chicks and tropical flowers and leaves, pineapples and pansies, kitten and animals prints.
The choice of fabrics were totally random, ranging from linen, cotton poplins and voile, while shimmering silk appears in all its steely brilliance.
Despite all this variety of colours, shapes and fabrics it was a 100% self-contained appearance and definitely one of my favourite shows of Berlin Fashion Week to date!
