Eastpak - Average Americana
by Liz McGrath posted on January 31, 2009I wasnt sure what to expect from the Eastpak fashion show – I know Eastpak make great rucksacks, but can they make clothes?
The show started off with typically American basketball style sweaters, hoodies and jerseys emblazoned with ‘Eastpak’ or nonsense like ‘Built 2 Resist’ on them. Next came shiny black or blue puffa jackets and vests which i’ve never been a fan of and these just looked cheap. Very teenage eastern block, and not in a good way. There were various knee-length jersey hoody dresses (some with very unoriginal ‘flock of birds’ graphics on them) which made every girl look horribly chunky. The general colour palette was browns, blues, blacks and greys and after a while it felt very dreary. The jeans for the girls were also horrible – all straight-leg and unflattering. The guys jeans looked a bit better though, coming in darker heavier styles and at the end a handsome black model looked good in a black leather jacket. Still though, nothing can change the fact that this collection was desperately lacking in originality and attractiveness. I will just stick to the rucksacks for now.
