Kaviar Gauche: The Naked Truth
by Liz McGrath posted on January 29, 2009It was a full-house that turned out to see the Kaviar Gauche show and after the first model walked the runway, every jaw in the room had surely hit the floor. The models walking down the runway were all practically naked – all that protected their modesty was flesh coloured panties, a long fringed necklace and extra long dramatic hair extensions which hung over the shoulders and all the way down to their hips. This meant the accessories should have been king – every model strutted with a bag swinging low form her hand – but im not sure if any eyes were really on the handbags.
If you could peel your eyes away long enough, you will have noticed Kaviar Gauche’s signature ‘shell’ shaped bags in a mixture of gorgeous fabrics such as suede and crocodile leather. There was also a definite trend for larger boxier bags (a little bit ‘Birken-esque’) – in black and brown leather – all of which looked utterly desirable.
But back to the girls. They really did kill it. They looked like a tribe of lost supermodels, stranded on a desert island, with their shoes and bags the only possessions they had managed to salvage from the wreckage. The photographers at the end of the runway were surely thinking they were in heaven. If you were complaining you could say that after the 10th half-naked girl, it got a little samey-samey, but it was still pretty fun. The soundtrack blaring out was made of Queen’s most upbeat numbers such as Another One Bites The Dust and Under Pressure – giving the show a naughty, clubby edge. Highly cheeky, (metaphorically and literally) and a definite successful for the brand.
