Sam Frenzel Wins Designer For Tomorrow

by Katharina Withelm posted on July 06, 2009

So, I am happy to say, that the designer Sam Frenzel who won Designer For Tomorrow Award by P&C is also who we predicted would win!

As last time, the DfT Award was a huge success. The young designers showed eight outstanding collections at the fashion tent at Bebelplatz which was filled to capacity.

Sam Frenzel is the first class winner. His fantastic collection “nuit blanche” (white night) stood out a mile from the competition. Even before he was announced, to me he marked out as a clear winner on the runway.
His collection formed a whole, as there were gimmickry of shapes at mellow grey skirts and pants, combined with filigree, transparent, gleaming blouses and leggins equipped with tenious lace.
The looks were completed by sumptuous accesoires like chains with oversized lambent stones, monumental bracelets and huge vivid ribbons.
As the designer says by himself, his intention is “to create favourite pieces, the wearer won’t give away no more.”

Many of the desinger had beautiful garments and an extraordinary way to treat the fabrics and create something with ambitious creative value and interesting details.

Derya Issever adorned her pieces with round stones made of glass, Chantal Margiotta captivates with pure, simple design but extrem sophisticated pattern and Simon Hanibal Fischer with excellent bespoke tailoring for men.

With Sasa Kovacevic and Arkadius Gisek there were two more happy to try out new things collections, with a more highly creative value, than wearability.
Eva-Maria Bogar lead us with smooth coloures and beautiful details to the ethno path and Lena Pfeil facinated with elaborate details of her otherwise very simple designs.

We look forward to seeing what Frenzel and the other finalists will do during the following half year, as participating at the Designer For Tomorrow Award by P&C has been a steppingstone for the finalists last time.

Besides Joel Horwitz and Julia Knuepfer who won the award in January, Michael Sontag and Frida Weyer showed their work already half a year later at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on their own shows, as well as Cem Cako whose work is showen at the Createurope Showroom in Berlin Friedrichshain these days…
