Schumacher Spring/Summer 2010: Tough Bombshell

by Rie Cau posted on July 02, 2009

With spring/summer 2009 stocks in full-blown sales and fall/winter 2009/10 collections just seeping through the stores now, LEXPOSURE.NET is proud to be fashion forward and is absolutely delighted to present to you the very first show from Berlin Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2010: Schumacher.

The show, held at the historically rich location of Bebelplatz, officially commenced at around the 10:15 mark. In terms of industry practice, we are happy that the show displayed a sign of the good ol’ German etiquette of being on time.

As the lights dimmed into complete darkness and a crisp piano music flooded the room, we could not help but close our eyes to immerse in this unknown and feel the emergence of the imminent explosion!

Tick. Tack. Tick. Tack. BOOM!

There emerged Toni Garrn, the German top model in a super casual but super cool outfit along with the upbeat rock soundtrack – a highly energising medley of ‘Yr Mangled Heart’ and ‘Listen Up!’ by the ultracool indie band The Gossips, ‘Great DJ’ from The Ting Tings and more).

For Spring/Summer 2010, designer Dorothee Schumacher focused on a glamourous girl with a tough spunk and a strong independent attitude.

Sparkles and sheen were the two predominant elements in the show. They are something that looks tough; but is so feminine and above all glamorous when juxtaposed with the abundant use of delicate silk.

The silhouette for Spring/Summer 2010 is all about the summer breeze: dresses are not restricted, but rather offers freedom for flirtatious movement, whereas shirts are opened with a very low V cut to show off that tentalising cleavage. Asymmetry and fresh summer prints are also infused into the collection. One jungle-green and fuchsia floral print on a pair of silk trousers was a fresh new look for this season‚ as the look is a complex mix of tribal-meets-sleepwear-meets-modern day glamour and we find that simply striking!

Other than that, there were a lot of nicely tailored cropped jackets in a finesse palette of peach, desert rose, nudes as well as white. With the number of white outfits arising on the menswear runway presented in Milan and Paris last month, these heated all-white looks from Schumacher today seem like something that would certainly complement those gorgeous men or vice versa.

Whatsmore is that Ms. Schumacher also incorporated a sense of practicality in one of her only evening gowns in the show – a heavenly column dress with a unique Kangaroo pocket on the side of the dress. Ultimately, this is a great balance of utility and glamour.

Overall, with all the models’ wavy blonde hair (even the sensational Serbian model Olya Ivanisevic – a natural brunette) glistening so irridescently, we detected a hint of Claudia Schiffer and her iconic chic bombshell style from the show. We are delighted to see the glorious return of this ultra flirtatious style, but updated for 2009 with its own independent edge.

The cast, infused with a healthy mix of new ( Whitney Coble, Andreea Diaconu, Natalie Hockey, Vilma Putriute, Katharina Rembi and Theresa Genth ) and more established models ( Toni Garrn, Alison Nix, Olya Ivanisevic ), is also very well chosen to play out Schumacher’s delightful vision – in particular, at the playful finale, when a heaven of bubbles showered down from above.

Sorry no one tripped on the runway, but we did see some great clothes that may possibly cause some extreme chaos and dangerous accidents on the streets.
