Relaunched Ossie Clark Label A Hit
by Liz McGrath posted on February 26, 2009We wanted to shine the light a little on the relaunched Ossie Clark label who have just recently showed their F/W2009 womenswear collection at London Fashion Week, which is only their second ever! The Creative Director of Ossie Clark is Saint Martins graduate, Israeli-born Avsh Alom Gur – he says he is inspired by free spirits and that someone like Elizabeth Jagger would be his dream client. Well that would make perfect sense seeing as her dad Mick wore the real thing. “I love the fact that individuality and rebellion have always been associated with London Fashion. My aspiration for Ossie Clark for the 21st Century is to create beautiful and desirable garments that will enhance and flatter a womans body” Gur says.
I have to say I love this re-interpretation of Ossie Clark (who is one of my favourite designers of all time) – It’s ultra glamorous and feminine and I love the deep jewel colours and also the fabulous new prints that are being used too. The jumpsuits and backless dresses could have danced right off a disco out of a scene in ‘Scarface’ and the more flowery floaty affairs you could imagine swinging London spending hazy high days in. These clothes are full of nostalgia, and the London crowd who are still deeply in love with the rock’n’roll scene and appreciate it’s history, will love to go out dressed in these designs, surely. It seems to have a lot of the energy of the original maverick designer charging through it.
Of course the best thing would be if Celia Birtwell (Ossie’s wife and textile designer) was doing the textile prints, but I suppose once you’ve worked on the real thing it makes no sense to work on a ‘relaunched’ label. Celia anyway is busy designing her 4th line for Topshop at the moment. Needless to say, check out this gorgeous collection, this is Boho-Chic done in a masterful Ossie Clark style and this Winter 2009 we can see the label being seriously popular.
