Technobohemian Spring/Summer 2010: You Can Be John Malkovich!
by Rie Cau posted on June 24, 2009Believe it or not: John Malkovich, the outspoken American actor, who is famous for his roles in films, such as Of Mice And Men (1992), Con Air (1997) and Johnny English (2003), is lending his creative portal to the fashion industry with a new clothing line called ”Technobohemian”. Unlike what happens in the famous film Being John Malkovich (1999), customers of Mr. Malkovich‘s Technobohemian collection will thankfully not be spit out after 15 minutes into a ditch on the side of the New Jersey Turnpike.
The menswear collection, presented during Milan Fashion Week from Monday 21st to Wednesday 23th June 2009 in Showroom Papaveri in Milan, is entitled ”White Homme”.
The 55-year old collaborated with Italy-based production company Arezzo for this occasion.
Through the invite, the stylish actor-turned-designer explains: ”Technobohemian is a phrase I read in a yet unpublished Italian novel. I lift it with the author’s permission and I will endeavor to use it will."
As a result, the small-but-well-contained summer collection is techno in terms of its use of cutting edge techniques and bohemian in terms of the sense of casual nonchalance, which it blatantly emits.
A soft-spoken and relaxed Mr. Malkovic explained that he would never do a collection that is super super casual, but rather he aimed to do a complete collection, which maintains a good balance of nice materials, quality, smart tailoring, refined elegance and comfort for men.
Consequently, there is an abundance of well-tailored, clean and crisp pieces. Naturally, suits are tailored to be sleek and smart – fittingly in shades of white, grey and camel for a collection called ”White Homme”.
With global warming on the rise and Italian houses Gucci and Versace leading a conspicuous white heat wave in terms of trend for Spring/Summer 2010, the profusion of white is for sure an appropriate move for Mr. Malkovich.
Ultimately, this is not the American actor, producer and director‘s first attempt in fashion, as he has already designed a line called ‘Uncle Kimono’ in 2002.
In addition, Mr. Malkovic is a regular patron in style magazines. In September 2008, he shared a cover with actress Tilda Swinton and actor Sean Penn for L’Uomo Vogue‘s Fall/Winter mega issue.
With this ultra cool collection on the horizon for men, being John Malkovich style-wise is simply a piece of cake!
