Ann Demeulemeester Men‘s AW 10/11 collection
by Floor Serbrock posted on February 08, 2010I’ve never really been into men‘s fashion, probably because I‘m most interested in looking at clothes I could imagine (or fantasize) myself in. And maybe this is why Ann Demeulemeester has always been the exception to the rule; her menswear line is so androgynous and baggy that Ive always drawn inspiration from it. This season‘s collection is faithful to the classic Demeulemeester style of black, Gothic, androgyny, asymmetry, and layers. The black and shiny, high-laced boots with loose pants scruffily tucked in them have still not (and I’m not complaining) disappeared from the mix.
The fall 2010 look is very Gothic, even for Ann. Simply put, the models strutting down the Paris runway last week looked like a less mangy Robert Smith. Campy vampire pirate in a high-fashion parcel. The look is especially enhanced by the voluptuous feather boas adorning the necks of the models. Furthermore, capes and soft furs, pale complexions, and parted flowing black hair were seen. But perhaps most remarkably, a very industrial tone is captured by the length of the layers, the coarse fabrics, and the sober colors. I’m reminded of the apocolyptic details of the Krizia Robustella show. Simple and pure, only three colors run through this season‘s collection- beige, white, and black. Gothic has never looked so smart.
