Feeding The 5000 In Trafalger Square - Wasting Not To Want Not!
by jobot *** posted on December 17, 2009To keep with the Christmas theme and trying to remind everyone that in this time when you are coming together with your family and friends to celebrate your love for each other, it’s really important that you keep in mind the love we all need to share with our master creator, Mother Nature.
The folks behind the initiative. Feeding The 5000 which took place in Trafalgar Square, London, yesterday aimed to do just this. In an attempt to highlight the global problem that we, as humans, create for the world thanks to our refusal to accept vegetables and fruit that aren’t 100% perfect looking. As a result to humanity’s aesthetics over ethics, in the UK alone 750, 000 slices of bread and 176, 000 bananas are thrown away on a daily basis – if that isn’t shocking, I really don’t know what is! So what do you do to show people that the look of their food isn’t as important as having the latest Miu Miu handbag when it comes to being chic? How about cooking them lunch with food donated by farmers, packers and supermarkets in the form of hot vegetable curry and fresh fruit smoothies? Seeing the queues of thousands that were lining the London square yesterday, it would seem that the charities involved proved their point – which was all powered by a lone cyclist to make the incentive extra green.
So take heed this Christmas and think more about what you throw away after your stacked high plate – Mother Nature needs your help!
