Spike Jonze and Absolut Vodka present: Robot love
by Floor Serbrock posted on March 10, 2010Another cool thing about being part of the LEXPOSURE team is having a boss who’s a workaholic and thus can’t go to all the parties/openings he gets invited to. You accept his hand-me-down invites with open arms, and so it is that I found myself at a premiere last night of Spike Jonze’s Absolut Vodka endorsed small film I’m Here.
The Babylon cinema in Berlin-Mitte was host to the happening, and what a host it was. Little paper bags with tiny treats, M&Ms, popcorn, excitement- it was like a deluxe children’s party but then with an open vodka bar and a pianist strumming mellow elevator music in the corner. Doors (and bar) opening at 7pm, the crowds were only ushered into the cinema at around 8.15, and humorous whisperings scurried through the lobby that this was all part of the tactic of getting us all drunk so we’d rave about the amazingness of the movie afterwards. Well, it worked, at least for my part. It was amazing. A simple tale of love, sad and beautiful. Though teetering on the brink of sickly sweet this time, I’m Here is nonetheless true to Jonze’s style, with some top-of-the-line animation and all-consuming scenes, raw and hectic.
