The Cobrasnake and EXIT: c'est Spring
by Floor Serbrock posted on March 26, 2010Spring is in the air. After a grueling, bottomless bleak pit of a winter here in Berlin, the birds are chirping, the air is warm, the coats are off; the sun is awake again.
Over on the other side of the ocean, Americans are celebrating this shift of the seasons and spirits by preparing for the biggest festival of modern debauch. Beer, beads, boobs, vomit: its SPRING BREAK BABY. But Marc the Cobrasnake Hunter- as you may know one of my office-morning-ritual hits- delivers a photo shoot in tribute to the phenomenon that has shown me another side of it. His editorial in collaboration with Wildfox Couture for EXIT magazine features a hazy and dreamy representation of high spirits, good times, sexy times, an abandonment of the daily and an escape to what can be. Instead of crass and loud and what can only really be summed up as grotesque, this editorial shows Spring Break as sexy, fun, youthful, exciting, and yes: classy. Mmm, in a rockstar kinda way.
“These girls know Spring Break very well, they wait for it, like they wait for love, all winter. Summer is not just a season to these girls, it’s more than holidays, beaches, sunny weather, more than just heat. It’s barefoot on the cement as you rush through the sprinklers like when you were a kid, it’s bikinis on the floor of the shower and strewn over the hot and cold taps, it’s ripping pages of makeup and products from vogue and pasting them into large, blank notebooks to share and read together on a blanket in the grass. It’s the smell of the grill, friends laughing, chopping pineapple and skewering shrimp, it’s stringing Christmas lights over the backyard and turning them on at night to lie under and talk about boyfriends. It’s sand in the bed after a long day at the beach.’ (source)
Ah spring. Glorious Spring.
