3. Adieu, Valentino
by LEXPOSURE .NET posted on January 08, 2009The legendary Italian Fashion designer, known for his unique “Dolce Vita” style, has retired in January this year after the presentation of his glorious glamorous Spring/Summer 2008 Haute Couture show at the Musée Rodin in Paris. The show was a grand event, which showcased an extravagant, classic Valentino collection of fine craftsmanship and intricate details. Infused with fresh flowers from roses to wisteria, the dresses were elegant and romantic, bringing along a dream-like quality with it. The show closed, logically, with an array of models dressed in Valentino’s signature red gowns. The final moment was celebrated as Valentino received a standing ovation from the entire audience, including designer Alber Elbaz of Lanvin, Miuccia Prada, supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Eva Herzigova, and Nadja Auermann, actress Lucy Liu, Uma Thurman and many more.
Valentino was awarded the Medal of the City of Paris for his services to fashion the following day and in September, “The Red Thread: The Inspiration and Passion of Valentino Garavani” exhibition was held at The Hospital Club, Covent Garden, London, and showcased the World of Valentino displayed on Samsung Electronics’ latest HDTV technology.
Following Valentino’s departure, the house was under the creative direction of Alessandra Fachinetti, formerly at Gucci, for three consecutive collections until she was dismissed in October 2008.
