8. The House of Viktor & Rolf
by LEXPOSURE .NET posted on January 09, 2009The Dutch designer duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren has established itself in the fashion industry since 1993. Over the past 15 years, the pair created inspirational, concept-based designs which combine extreme ideas with glamorous high-fashion that wows and stuns us all. “The House of Viktor & Rolf” exhibit, shown at the Barbican Art Gallery in London, is a display of these fantastical, iconic works over their joint career in miniature versions, presented in the setting of a gigantic three-story doll house built by the Dutch architect Siebe Tettero.
Intricate attention has been paid to every detail of the exhibit, including every part of the dolls from head to toe. With their porcelain faces painted with the collection’s original make-up as seen on the runway, the dolls were brought to life as they stood in the exhibition space with video of the life-sized outfit displayed behind them.
The one piece to look out for in the show is the white dress delicately embroidered with the words “I love you” from the “Bedtime Story” show for Fall/Winter 2005. This piece, as simple as it may seem, marks one of the most striking and powerful statements and ultimately proves Viktor & Rolf’s status as one of the best in the world of fashion.
