Designer Yamê Reis of the Brazilian label Cantão has scooped a huge chunk of paradise and placed it right here in the middle of Rio for Spring/Summer 2010.

The show, entitled ”Pequena Grande Ilha” in Portuguese (English: ”A little big Island”), is as the title suggests an assembly of every little thing from Cantão’s treasure chest in paradise island.

As the stage, decorated like a playful deck of a pirate ship, lit up; a rosie-cheeked nymphet with a crown of leaves emerged out of the mystical darkness and officially opened the show.

Thereafter, the Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana not only led a gang of cherubic creatures dressed in Cantão‘s delightful spring/summer collection, but she also brought the beauty and charms of the jungle along with her.

As a result, the collection is natural, low-toned and playful – with the essence of the jungle in full bloom. There is an abundance of light whimsical dresses with delicate butterfly print and an abstract feminine floral print.

Nautical stripes are also at large at the show. It brings a mythical wave of piratical primitivism direct from the Caribbean. The overall look is savage, yet noble, sophisticated and refined with its use of crafty techniques, such as its intricate patchwork of different fabrics, such as linen, lace and silk voile.

To toughen up the subdued look, dazzling metallic embellishments are added: gladiator sandals glistened in metallic silver, while glittering gold chains, sashes and bracelets were eccentrically decorated with exotic lush green leaves.

We particularly like the huge shimmering black spider brooch, which adorned a series of outstanding pieces all throughout the show. What a deadly enchanting match?

Overall, the show emits a conspicuous vibe of bohemian escapism and ultimately of optimism, which makes us forget about every miserable thing that has happened recently and lifts us up with a big bright smile, as we return to mother nature.

Undoubtedly, Cantão‘s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is a mesmerising collection that as the lyrics of the soundtrack of ‘On My Mind’ by Team B suggests: we could not keep away of.
