CFDA Fashion Awards 2009
by Beeke Melcher posted on June 16, 2009Yesterday evening the annual CFDA Fashion Awards were awarded to the honorees in New York’s Alice Tully Hall. On the (non-red) carpet, stars and starlets such as Coco Rocha, Kirsten Dunst, Diane Kruger, Doutzen Kroes and Ashley Olsen looked absolutely stunning in their marvelous dresses. Literally everyone looked fabulous – though, it could be said that Doutzen Kroes’ dress was a little over the ‘frilly’ top. Red mixed with black was THE combo of the night. From the fashion industry aristocracy was the duchess of Vogue Anna Wintour, and former stock boy (Cinderella story alert!) Marc Jacobs with his fiancé Lorenzo Martone – all of which did their best to grace the audience with their presence.
CDFA president Diane von Fürstenberg welcomed the guests by taking photographs. The luckiest winners were the Rodarte sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy who won the ‘Womenswear Designer of Year Award’ – the equivalent went to both Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders and Italo Zucchelli for Calvin Klein (their joint win was indeed a tie!). The special Swarovski Award for Womenswear winner, Alexander Wang, stated that before the ceremony he wasn’t nervous at all – maybe that’s a good principle for winning after all!
All the winners really deserved their prizes, although we didn’t really understand how Proenza Schouler walked away with the ’Accessory Designer of the Year’ title.
