Converse & Patta Celebrate The Art Of Partying
by Johannes Keil posted on September 11, 2009Since we are in Berlin (the weekend practically starts on Thursday nights), hip labels often try to manifest their being “cool” through throwing excessive parties. And this one definitely ranks at the top of the PR-stunt-list of late. This time round sneaker kings CONVERSE and fellow sneaker brand Patta from Amsterdam (in collaboration with Danish apparel favourites WOOD WOOD) were hosting the party for the Dutch sneaker collective’s 5th anniversary and to celebrate the two brands’ joint anniversary pack of limited edition sneakers.
The Ballhaus, to most party and fashion victims a familiar sight due to its being the venue of many a Broken Hearts Club extravaganza, was a suitable backdrop for this event. With former late night institutions Rio and Scala just around the corner and with a nod towards street culture, the Ballhaus is one of the venues who can still transport the “banging inner-city chic”: Upon entering the venue red velvet curtains strike the eye and old-school telephones can be spotted on each single table. Every table has a number, so you can connect with your buddy on the balcony and talk about the cute bartender or the slightly displaced middle-aged lady going bananas on the dancefloor. Or you simply use it for some initial bonding with the beauty on table number 6.
The party, however, was by no means a mere chit-chat get together of agency bores. The music, kindly provided by Parra Soundsystem and Le Le, who were performing tracks specially tailored for this occasion live on stage, set the tone for a red hot party bash and electrified the crowd. Hence, it comes as no surprise that the dancefloor was packed in no time. As for the crowd, imagine an eclectic mix of the common party regulars — those nocturnal creatures that are not missing out on any occasion at which free booze is provided — Mitte hipsters — they are basically congruent with the former just with some added style — and a good lot of guys and girls from Berlin’s creative and communicating branches and there you go: all the friends you need to gather to consider your event a straight success in terms of PR.
Bottom line:
Good music, solid location, nice kicks and free drinks (at least the standard ones). All boxes ticked for an amusing night out. An honest congratulation for this celebration goes to Converse and Patta!
