Galerie für Modefotografie Exhibits Anders Edström - Dimanche 1997
by Anna Eimerl posted on March 19, 2009In it’s third photography show, Berlin’s Galerie für Modefotografie is to exhibit the contemporary fashion photographer Anders Edström work starting 20th March, 2009. Also featured alongside Edström’s photographic pieces will be a collection of the films he created in the 1990’s.
Sitting nicely with Edström’s work will be experimental photographs from the Dimanche series. The photos taken under production by Purple Magazine act as a visual attempt to fashion a new and informal medium. Edström’s own aesthetics run throughout the image series and help to display a contrast to the sterile look of the 1980’s.
Anders Edström is a photographer and filmmaker of Swedish origin and was one of the first young photographers to present fashion and it’s photography in a manner lacking any formalities. Alongside the works of Jürgen Teller, Terry Richardson and Mario Sorrenti, Edström’s work is characterised as consciously avoiding the sterile and stereotypical 1980’s look.
Edström, a close confidante of Martin Margiela, worked closely with the designer in the 1990’s on his new collection and developed a distinctive photographic representation of Margiela’s work at that time. In 2000/2001, Edström photographed the legendary Miu Miu campaign with stylist Ann Sophie Back. In 2003 his works were shown in the internationally renowned Almine Rech gallery in Paris. Anders Edström’s photographs have appeared in Purple, Self Service, Dazed & Confused and Visionaire.
This exhibition couldn’t be better – so make sure you get down to see it and meet some fellow fashion heads!
