House of Style Returns
by Anna Eimerl posted on March 25, 2009Last Saturday, MTV brought back its weekly fashion show, House of Style. Just like the original, it had DIY segments, face-to-face time with designers and a model host (Bar Refaeli) who sucks at talking. But at least Bar is foreign (she is from Israel). What was Cindy Crawford’s excuse? Anyway, it‘s still distracting and please give Refaeli some clothes (guys stop only thinking only of yourselves) as its a show for women and for I can pretty much guarantee that they don‘t want to see Refaeli the whole time only wearing a bikini.
The original show premiered in 1989, focusing on America’s growing fascination with the “super model” craze. The show was based on fashion, lives of models, the modeling industry and controversial topics such as eating disorders. The show was directed by Joshua Homnick and Steve Paley and during its 11 year run, featured a variety of hosts, most of which were professional models. The most famous host of House of Style was Cindy Crawford, whose six years run as the host of House of Style helped make her a household name. Indeed, many credit Cindy Crawford as the reason for the show’s success during its early years and point to the fact that after she left the series, MTV drastically cut the number of episodes every year after her departure until the show was reduced to a yearly special and then ultimately cancelled in 2000.
The first new episode featured 10 hot trends (as picked by Teen Vogue, which included friendship bracelets and jelly shoes, hello?! – I‘m not 12 anymore), Erin Fetherston’s tips on throwing a dinner party and model Jessica Stam showing us how to shop in our closets. Her revelatory ideas include wearing a white T-shirt with a black skirt and heels – and trading your $1,500 handbags with your friends at some sort of bag-swap party – because who doesn’t have $1,500 Marc Jacobs Stam bag lying around that they’re just so sick of using it? And you can watch Justin Timberlake behind the scenes at his William Rast show with Refaeli, what a laugh!
At least now you know that you didn’t miss too much – but for future sundays with hard hangovers after an alcohol fueled night, the show fits the bill for entertaining!
