Label To Watch: q.e.d.
by Johannes Keil posted on June 18, 2009Quod Erat Demonstrandum, or simply q.e.d., is a latin saying many of us still recall from maths class back in shool and it stands for: which was to be proven. The Berlin based fashion label going by the same name was founded in 2006 by fellow fashion school graduates Julia Böge, Simona Gabrieli and Jasmin Moallim.
The multi-talented three-piece first crossed paths at fashion school ESMOD in Berlin, where the they discovered a common love of the colour black and thereby kick-started their collaboration. The trio exclusively design and produce their collections in Germany, which makes for only highest quality garments. So, it comes as no big surprise that their debut collection, released in January 2007, was hailed at the Beck´s Fashion Experience and went on to win the Karstadt New Generation Award at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin, in early 2008. q.e.d.’s seemingly effortless success also granted them the opportunity to present their works at the World Fashion Film Festival in Berlin in the form of a short film. Within menswear and music categories their piece was selected as best clip of the festival by an international jury of fashion, music and film experts. Last but certainly not least, the Julia, Simona and Jasmin were invited over to the UK to present their collection at the On|Off – the independent fashion showcase during London Fashion Week, in September 2008.
Summing it all up:
The label’s garments are incredibly wearable, adhere to the rules of classical menswear tailoring and, above all, are exquisitely detailed with subtlety and avant-garde undertones — a label that should definitely be kept in mind.
