Melt! Festival

by Katharina Withelm posted on July 14, 2009

Only two more days to go – this years Melt! festival is almost here. You wouldn’t believe how excited I have been over the last few days – or maybe you can?!

If you haven‘t heard about this dead spaced out festival in the heart of nowhere in eastern Germany, you have to wait for one year as I’m sorry to say, that as of last week, the event became sold out! Luckily enough for me, I got my ticket – YEAH!

The skyline of oversized brown coal diggers points us in the right direction to the Melt! Festival, which has been growing in the shadow of the hulks over the years. It takes place for the 11th time this year and finally it arrived in the Champions-League of international festivals and was nominated for the UK Festival Award.

Last year, I danced together with the other 20.000 music lovers in front of this stunning backdrop through monsoon like rain which turned the whole festival area into a marshy landscape.

The special thing about Melt! and the fact why I really love this festival, is that it‘s different. The excessive cross genre line-up which ranges from guitar to electronic music is the festival‘s signature feature on the one hand, but on the other it never gets out of hand.
In fact, it has the focus on the big picture but has managed to never loss the love for the smallest details. So this festival combines contradictory extremes: Melt! is huge but small.

This year it takes place from 17th – 19th of July in the ‘Iron City’ Ferropolis.

I could start listing all the outstanding acts who will perform this weekend but once again, this would break the mould, because there are loads of wicked acts, believe me!!
So just check the festival website for further information.

Dude! I really can‘t wait to meet my friends at ‘our’ campsite on friday where we will get started on our whacked out weekend!
