The Detroit Book - A Decaying City In Photographs
by jobot *** posted on August 04, 2009Detroit is a city of extremes. Never before has a capital city thrived from such hastied industrial boom and been abandoned with the same rigor. Over the past 5 years, 7 artists based within what was once called, The Motor City, have come together to create the book, Detroit Book Of Love, to show the world how the people left in the post-industrial wastelands have pooled their resources and adapted to their landscape whilst implementing new and useful ways to make use of the undeniable hole that has been left in the heart of what was one of the car capitals of the world. It is most thought provoking and often heart breaking to see how the human condition survives throughout as they struggle to make sense of the artificial force of nature that once inhabited their city. At the end though, the artistes hope to show Detroit as what it is in its current day rather than what it once was – a statement which in itself is quite bold seeing as so many people view the city as being a lost cause.
The seven artistes whose work is featured in the book are:
Corine Smith
Mitch Cope
Clinton Snider
Mark Alor Powell
Antonio Gomez
Ingo Vetter
Scott Hocking
