Versace Cruise 2010: Capital Barbie To Boost The Capital
by Rie Cau posted on June 10, 2009It seems like Italian designer Donatella Versace is making a rather daring hypothesis to combat the tough situation encircling the financial situation right now: ”it takes a Capital Barbie to boost the capitals”. What she is targeting are the bright and beautiful blondes, brunettes, white-haired and dark-haired women all over the world – women with brains and depth, who enjoys beauty. To put it contextually, the heroine Elle Woods in the popular teenage flick Legally Blonde would be a fine example.
Although that is still only a hypothesis to be tested out, we are cruising along with the Versace Heiress and her cruise 2010 collection – a light and easy collection struck by a healthy glow of sunlight.
Versace‘s capital Barbie for cruise 2010, Russian model Yulia Kharlapanova, might look cute and sweet with her tiara and doll-like dresses in bright sunny colours and a soft Polynesian floral motif; but watch out! She is not made entirely out of sugar and creme.
The designer, who has famously been quoted saying ”showing your femininity should help your career and not go against your career” as the answer to Hilary Clinton‘s refusal to be in Vogue magazine, equipped her combat baby with some of her strongest metallic gear this cruise for survival in the modern world.
”I was inspired by special ‘iconic’ materials such as a metal mesh”, says the visionary Queen of Fashion.
Indeed, she has every right to do so, as the look is all glitz and glamour – two words that are a loyal part to the regal Versace family.
Ms. Versace used lightweight cottons, linen and silk as her dominant fabric choice this season and consequently, offered metal without the grisly weight. Something that is utterly perfect for the carefree cruise season.
A delectable accessories range is also in sight this season. Small chains, glass stones, gold metal mesh and Plexiglas buckles add a touch of bedazzlement and personality to the outstanding outfits.
Ultimately, the Italian luxury fashion house has undergone a whirlwind of change in CEOs this month – the resignation of Giancarlo Di Risio, due to collaborative differences and the subsequent speedy appointment of Gian Giacomo Ferraris , formerly chief at Jil Sander since 2004.
Despite what happens, just like this season‘s strappy sky high platform heels, high and mighty are two things that will surely remain on the outlook for Versace.
