Marloes, at least

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 03, 2008

She was the real surprise at Prada this season, at least one of the very good ones if you call the others Giedre Dukauskaite, Yulia Chumak or Nimue Smit. Marloes brought quite an unexpected mood to the collection, at least to her outfit. Number sixteen. It didn’t take too long before an editorial in Muse (by Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones) went right in time to complete such a promising portrait. The fact she hasn’t been overexposed since September is absolutely not worrying when all you hear from her is good news. Like this campaign to come for Valentino fragrance shot by Glen Luchford. If these lines might sound as the perfect description of a girl for today – so fresh, so now – we’d rather consider the avant-garde side of her look. At least.

Magic acorns are highly recommended

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 03, 2008

She started in magazines like Jalouse and Citizen K which are known to work with promising new girls just arrived in Paris. She needed only a few pages to convince and build an impressive book before the shows. We couldn’t get her out of our heads since we saw her first tests by Elina Kechicheva, we already called it an addictive porftolio. Which turned into a pretty useful tool came s/s 09. Opening Tsumori Chisato, walking for Devastée, Bernhard Willhelm and Moon Young Hee. If these names are not the most famous of the week, please remember the latter booked Viktoriya Sasonkina back in time. The tiny queenies’ royal way.

Glass ceiling

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 03, 2008

When we’ve started thinking of the kind of models we want to feature here, we immediately thought about some requirements. What does a model need to get her spot on this page. This idea quickly appeared as too strict when Anna Heaton crossed our minds as a possible choice. If her name remains a bit confidential for now, her face has already caught the good eyes around. Relying on her unforgettable features as much as this blend of shyness and moody attitude, she leaves a distinct signature on every picture in which it’s easy to see a great editorial prospect for a near future.

Blown away and not by the wind

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 03, 2008

We noticed her in an editorial in July. French magazine, decent work. We thought she’s one of these models we should remember more often. She already had an editorial in our beloved italian Amica before and we should know it’s a good sign. We know it but we should pay even more attention to this kind of details. Especially when one model outshines the others in a multi-girl editorial. Exactly what Yulia did. What happened next ? She did Prada in Milan then Miu Miu in Paris on that windy night. Currently in London, everyone agrees on her very sophisticated look and appeal. We’d like to add she was also highly impressive when she popped up at the door after the show. Haunting, captivating beauty. Well, sophisticated.

Cinderella couldn't wait no more

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 03, 2008

First time we had the opportunity to meet with Yulia was in summer. Couture fashion week, a few new faces are walking their first steps. Almost undercover. We always have our list of shows to watch carefully as we know their bookings rarely disappoint. Count Josep Font among them. That’s exactly where we saw Yulia. Alluring and endearing, very expressive. In one word you can say promising and you’d better keep a notebook with you to write down her name after the show. Keep it in your mind or pocket for next ready-to-wear season. A new season came and the sweet promises quickly turned into reality. It took no longer than two days to spot her walking for Nina Ricci. Would have been enough to set her career on fire but you need to add names like Lanvin and Hussein Chalayan. We will never forget how she asked us to take a picture with her dress, backstage at Josep Font. Latest news are telling us she’ll have a chance to take a picture with her dress… for real this time.

Premier girl, premium book

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on December 17, 2008

Who’s Alice ? Certainly one of the most successful girls from Premier these last season. Our criteria to call her successful is rather the high quality of her recent work than an incredibly long list of runway bookings. Consider her as quite a favorite of Alexander McQueen as she currently appears on the ads, shot by Craig McDean. Is that the hidden part of the iceberg ? Hidden, don’t know. Just a part, for sure. Good magazines are like our eyes, they love her. Both Vogue Italia and Vogue UK, both not for the first time, both shot by Tim Walker. A photographer we love for his atmospheres, his inspiration, his aesthetic and… his choice of models. Let’s say of red-haired models. And Alice follows big names in their footsteps (Lily Cole and Sunniva Stordahl). Other editorial work includes latest POP by Josh Olins and if you check back further in her career you might be impressed as well. She’s definitely working on a serious book, the kind we like. Not the thickest. Simply the most thrilling. Priceless when you’ve got a stunning campaign meanwhile.
