Not much to tell yet but a lot to see: trust your eyes and stay tuned

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on January 29, 2009

There isn’t much to tell you yet about Dalia excepted she’s just starting out. We were recently sent these 4 polaroids from her agency and we love what we are seeing. Fantastic olive skin, little elfin features and a piercing, intelligent gaze that shoots out from her brown eyes.

Expressive might be the first word to come up. Four pictures, four very different expressions. Same girl, unlimited abilities. If you have a chance to look at her whole portfolio a little longer, you’ll realize it’s also true for her body. The way she poses, the way she uses space to build a specific scene. Like an actress would do for her role. Like a dancer would use her body. Being a part of the picture and leading its atmosphere. Even it’s our very own feelings towards her early work, we think it’s worth a line as it’s exactly what’s going to catch your attention at first sight. Very important, once you’ve been captured by the unique beauty of her face.

We can imagine Dalia will have a bright future indeed. Of course timing is everything and we hope the timing is right for her. The next piece we’ll write on her might be focused on facts. For now it’s just these 4 images and our imagination.

The girl with the Midas touch

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on February 01, 2009

She’s not exactly new. Not brand new. She’s not just arrived last week and every good eye may have noticed her. Here or there. Might be at the end of last year when she walked Chanel Pre-Fall 2009. Might be a few months earlier as she had a precious and serious season including the very best shows in London (Christopher Kane, Sinha Stanic, Armand Basi…), Marni in Milan and a few nice ones like Akris or AF Vandevorst in Paris. With this little list and a little love for her job, she got a good spot among our favorites for the upcoming collections.
Well-known for her delicate features and poised look on the catwalk, Alek is also leaving her mark on glossy pages lately. She’s on the cover of Bon Fall/Winter 08-09 then Vogue Italia Gioiello by Solve Sundsbo. Sounds like a little extra update on her soon where you’ll know more about the Alek touch that built her a golden portfolio.

Hi, I'm Nicola !

She entered the room and said hello to everyone, shaking hands with a large smile. Enough to be impressed for the whole day, even during that special week spent visiting agencies in Paris. Seeing many girls, gathering many pictures and memories. Nicola left the most unforgettable one for sure and not just for her face or silhouette, both remarkable. The way she moves, the way she poses, her overall attitude have brought her to another level as soon as she pushed the door. Always natural, never overdone and full of energy, she also has the extra touch of style that gave lovely ideas to her agent during the polaroid session. Inspiration is in the air and already in Sleek magazine, a wind of change is blowing. Both stronger than blizzard and sweeter than breeze, Nicola simply has the right profile to count among our favorites: out of this world and larger than life.

Dainty and daring: the Brazilian One

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on February 10, 2009

We’ve quickly introduced her in a short post with her first tests from New York and already had the idea in mind: adding Janete Friedrich to our last Lexposed Faces before the start of F/W 09-10 collections. The picture we picked once turned out to be the one used for a showcard featuring her unique face at its best with much emphasis on her profile. If her hair is the most eye-catching part of her appeal, the most important remains the unusual daintiness of her expressions contrasting with such a bright, almost aggressive orange. A contrast you might have noticed too, if you had an opportunity to check some backstage pictures from Rio where she booked enough shows to make remarkable debuts on the runway and leave us with high expectations a couple of days before it really begins. A brazilian breeze is blowing again at One.

From Norway to the World: Ragnhild's own way

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on February 14, 2009

It takes a showcard next to a dress to get crazy in backstage. It takes a picture, sometimes just one, and you know you’ve seen a model you won’t easily forget. Once upon a season, we discovered Ragnhild Jevne this way, saw her a few days later and she impressed us enough to write on her already three times. Things went their way since last October in Paris and her portfolio is starting to look thicker and stronger now with a couple editorials and lucky bookings. Let’s tell things how they are: if there is a name to remember from S/S 09 Couture fashion week, it’s clearly Ragnhild. Think of her as a new addition among Givenchy’s darlings which often means a lot. She also walked Elie Saab and has her showcard for New York. Which often means a lot too as you can imagine her career is taking an interenational turn. Keep your eyes open. Keep your heart open too, this girl is irresistible whatever she does and wherever she goes.

Edythe2

An unusual career that took an unexpected turn: Edythe goes Brit

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on February 24, 2009

She isn’t the newest girl of the season but we believe she belongs to this section like nobody else. The idea to add her to our Lexposed Faces series came last fall while having a look at her book. We just thought and still think her face is pretty unusual, hard to describe and full of unexplored potential. After a decent week in New York spent at some rather confidential yet highly interesting shows, this potential is currently being unveiled in London. Finally. From former Calvin Klein exclusive to british catwalks sensation, it took her only a few days.
And a few shows. Laid-back at Topshop Unique, romantic at Basso and Brooke, corpse-bride at Ann-Sofie Back in fourty-eight hours. Our hopes for her started to rise again last Sunday then turned into reality yesterday when she added Giles, Danielle Scutt and Luella to her bookings. American beauty suddenly morphed into the epitome of an English Rose. Rather unexpected only two weeks ago but it might be the way it works with Edythe. Hope she will surprise us again, we’re getting used to it now.
