Walking upstairs and coming soon

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 02, 2009

Smells like coffee all over the office, even at five in the afternoon. In something like thirty six hours we will be walking in the streets of Paris. We’re excited. And busy. What keeps us so busy right now is probably the list of new faces about to make their way on the catwalks at the end of the week. The ones that still haven’t walked this season, the ones who weren’t in New York, London or Milan. The heavily expected and the mysterious girls.

Among them is a lovely one from Poland, from the same agency (Eastern Models) as Magdalena Fiolka who was Lexposed Face a few weeks ago. Her name is Lucyna Amszej and it already says a lot. How not to be lovely when you’re called Lucyna ? She’s like a laid-back princess, cool yet precious. Signed with Marilyn in Paris, she’s already in town and working on her portfolio with some of the best photographers including Jolijn Snijders. Awesome pictures always make expectations grow higher and you should also stay tuned for some editorials to come soon. This being said, we think polaroids are a model’s best passport. Lucyna’s latest are surely the very best way to introduce her.

First times, big times: Alina is writing her own story

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 03, 2009

As a quick introduction we could say her first season in New York included shows like Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti. Her first season in London counted Christopher Kane on the list and she did no less than Prada for her first time in Milan. First times and lots of love, fantastic premieres. She was already remarkable at shows like Christian Lacroix in Paris S/S 09 and we just thought there was no better time to drop a few lines on her.

Frenzy is back in the City of Lights from tomorrow till the end of next week and we might have to count on Alina Ismailova again. Will be her second round here but her first time as a the last week of a full season. With big shows in every other city in her luggage, we’re allowed to expect great things from this girl who can handle very different shows from Christian Lacroix to Yohji Yamamoto fitting classic as brilliantly as conceptual. This probably will translate into great editorials soon but right we’re just keeping our eyes wide open. It’s time to stay tuned, more than ever.

A few hints on Jagoda's potential

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 19, 2009

Selecting a model to be our next Lexposed Face wasn’t easy these last days as we have many possibilities, many choices and decisions to make. Where to put the emphasis, who to focus on. It’s always like that right after the shows. A huge crop of new girls hit the runways from New York to Paris, some walked only in one of the four towns, some did well at this place and not so much at that place. It can be hard to handle but it can also be a good opportunity to make daring choices and be creative. Imagination is running wild. So, our first post-shows Lexposed Face is called Jagoda Lagiewska, she’s Polish and comes from SPP Models in Wroclaw.

Her city of the season was London where she’s signed with FM Models as a part of their shining show package. She walked for Josh Goot and Margaret Howell there, two very selective ones with inventive castings. Some shows we have to remember even if they aren’t always the most watched. It’s hard to predict the future of a girl after the season. It’s also thrilling and we’re living for this thrill. Soft yet charismatic and highly expressive with her delicate mix of greenish blue eyes, 5’10 silhouette, high cheekbones and light brown hair, her portfolio already includes some nice pieces. Though, we always think polaroids are able to give the most precise idea of what a girl’s potential looks like. Four ones for you.

It's easy to understand: why a girl like Oksana was at a show like Burberry

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 20, 2009

Trying to describe your own model when you are an agent can be tough finding the right way to highlight her strengths, make her sound as nice as she looks and put enough emphasis on what really counts. IMG Milan didn’t have this problem with Oksana: she might be one of the easiest to describe. Just have a look at what she booked this season and you have a part of the answer. Everything started for her at Burberry Prorsum FW 09-10 and only got better during the week adding shows like Les Copains or Marni. It’s selective and straight to the point.

Then, as we often want to know a little more than what we’ve all seen on the runway, things can be a tad harder. Obviously not with Oksana, nineteen and Lithuanian. That’s still facts only, that’s still easy. When we’ve been told she’s very natural in front of the camera, we can just say yes as her polaroids here are four excellent examples of it. After this we have no trouble in believing she’s professional and has a perfect attitude. All in one it sounds like the prettiest portrait ever. Check back the way she looks on the catwalk and her tests if you need more. And stay tuned because there will be more anyway.

The clock's truth: Elise Helene was just in time for FW 09-10

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 24, 2009

Before or after the season ? What’s the very best moment to turn a very promising model into our latest Lexposed Face ? It always depends of the girl and relies on how things are going on around her. Each career is different and has its own pace. In Elise Helen’s case, it was definitely worth to wait until the end of the season. A stunning week in Paris and her portrait is definitely complete now. It started in Lanvin and ended with Louis Vuitton, it went through Dries Van Noten and Yves Saint Laurent. It’s blended with big and beautiful names.

Quite a good move for the redhead at Viva Paris since we first noticed her on some good runways last season. These were maybe less known as YSL or Vuitton but are definitely reputable places for a newcomer in town. Just to name a few ones, they were Sonia Rykiel, Issey Miyake and especially Ann Demeulemeester. Since that time she took the time to work on her portfolio, got more confident on London catwalks, shot for QVEST (current issue) then came back to Paris for her lovely breakthrough-season.

Who's that girl ? Mia Frilander!

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 26, 2009

The unexpected moves are often the good ones, the clever ones. You wouldn’t have thought it was going to happen but seems obvious afterwards. All of a sudden, Mia Frilander opened Loewe in Paris, one of these shows with more famous faces than intriguing newcomers. Hence the prestige of being there and being look number one. It seems this one was perfectly groomed by IMG.

Even without it her week would have looked lovely from day one till the end, with these less known bookings that sometimes tell a lot about some future opportunities. Issey Miyake is one of our favorite shows and favorite castings in Paris, maybe because of the lower pressure and higher freedom they have to pick their girls. Check back one or two seasons later where they went next. We could say the same about Kris Van Assche and his FW 09-10 aesthetic still leaves us speechless. Much to learn and a lot to hope. Then Loewe came and it might have been like a little big kick. Next bookings were Barbara Bui which shouldn’t be forgotten and Louis Vuitton as a suitable ending for her week in town. She might have such a melancholic gaze, we bet she’s quite happy with her season.
