"They say I'm a cat, but, I'm Leon!"

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 05, 2009

Some girls are like cats, cute and impish looking. Some girls are like tigers, impressive and powerful. Some girls are just neither cats nor tigers, probably a bit of both and you could count Yulia Leontieva within this selective group of models. She told us herself a casting director said to her once she looked like a cat and she didn’t get the point. “They say I’m a cat, but, I’m Leon!”. That’s so true, we can only agree. She’s unique. One of her kind.

She was one of our first Lexposed Faces, she’s one of our beloved models and full-time all-time favorites, she did a splendid season. What else ? Always more. If you really want it, take it slow. This is also true in a model’s life. Things can go faster one day, slower then next one but wh

Geniune and Genius: Katrin Moves and Morphs

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 07, 2009

She builds her career like a masterpiece, a smart mixture of some of the most precious and peculiar editorials of her time. She has been featured in Vogue Italia twice in a row and each time got the cover. She also took part in the S/S 09 Prada campaign, shot by Steven Meisel again. These three jobs could be enough to describe the high level but the more precise, the better. With the prettiest cheekbones of her generation and her translucent eyebrows, Katrin Thormann has been able to impose her fragile look from the day she appeared on the cover of Dazed & Confused, almost one year ago. The surprise of last summer turned into the stunner of the season and so on.

Easy come, easy stay. People

Katlin Aas is what Beauty is all about

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 07, 2009

Katlin’s debuts in London were spectacular and since she opened Christopher Kane, speculations about her future went higher and higher. It was quite relieving to see how she finally lived up to these expectations opening and closing Prada one week later then walking Miu Miu. For once, there was no smoke without a fire and what we saw was what we got in the end. A gorgeous season from day one to the last minute, a sensational way to start a career and a little bit of controversy to spice it up.

Controversy ? As always, we would say. There will always be people, even very serious ones, to have doubts regarding the latest Prada exclusive or runway darling. It’s no wonder: castings are subjective selections and runway reflections of a vision.

Models at Work: Casting at Modelwerk, Hamburg

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 15, 2009

The weekend is coming soon and we feel attracted by light-hearted topics. Or by anything which could change our mind from the grey weather and non-stop rain. Thinking of some sunny days in Hamburg a few weeks ago. Two days we spent visiting agencies, sitting more often on the backseats of a taxi cab than in front of a computer screen. We went back from this quick trip with a few good memories and bright ideas in our suitcases. And a few pictures, of course.

From the early hours of Monday morning to the last rays of sun on Tuesday evening we only lived in and for Hamburg. Our schedule was full. And was great. Especially Monday afternoon at Modelwerk where we had an incredible opportunity: some of their most promising new faces were at the

A Touch Of Model Magic: Before Fashion by Eric Guillemain

by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 17, 2009

Photographers who explore their own way have always been our favorites, with their unmatched ability to create a brand new shock. A visual shock and the thrill of new ideas, new aesthetics. Going personal, getting personal. That’s what attracted us to Eric Guillemain’s work where the model as a character plays the main role. Fashion models as the heart of pictures that aren’t true fashion photography. It’s not really about clothes, it’s all motions and emotions. Eric captures what he believes he has in front of his camera and the result often looks like a static movie, scene after scene.

His series called Before Fashion was actually the way we discovered his work. You never know if the pictures are te

Just A Wonderful Moment: Johanna Kneppers in Elle US

by Maud Lemoine posted on May 19, 2009

First she was the best surprise at Balenciaga Fall 2009 in March, then she became our Lexposed face a few weeks ago. Now she’s in latest issue of Elle US, shot by Jacob Sutton and styled by no other than Samuel François. Johanna Kneppers continues to impress as a 1920’s muse dressed in Louis Vuitton. Her agency in Paris, Just WM, can be very proud of her as creativity and innate talent find their echo on glossy paper.
