Tilda Swinton Gets Futuristic for Another Magazine
by Liz McGrath posted on February 12, 2009Wow what a cover! Wait a second, what two amazing covers! Yes those marketing people are getting clever again, trying to find ways to get us to go out and (please) buy their magazine. What Another Magazine are doing for their Spring/Summer09 issue is definitely worthy of putting your hand into your pocket for though – these covers are d-i-v-i-n-e. I would like them both in frames please!
The ploy is this: the general buying public can all buy the cover of British actress Tilda Swinton in the black Mark Fast dress. But during London Fashion Week, and only available at Selfridges Oxford Street, fashionistas can buy a special limited-run version where Tilda is wearing a fabulous pink ribbon dress. THAT is the cover you should be seen with! Selfridges are also offering a full digital version for 2 weeks – check it while you can!
Legendary photographer Craig McDean shot the two covers and the stunning editorial inside. Tilda Swinton, with her alien-like looks and unique poise and demeanor, was a perfect choice for an issue depicting the future of British fashion. Designers such as Peter Pilotto, Louise Goldin, Craig Lawrence and Mary Katrantzou all made dresses solely for the issue. To accompany the piece Jefferson Hack interviewed Tilda, along with 35 of her contemporaries including Patti Smith and Viktor+Rolf. That sounds like an impressive contents! A one-of-a-kind issue in every way.
Good work, Another Magazine – this demonstrates why magazines can still be players.
