Vogue Nippon September 2009: Brüno who? Iris Is IT!
by Rie Cau posted on July 27, 2009Brüno, the Austrian journalist a.k.a one of the many eccentrically wicked alter-egos of American comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, may be the biggest Austrian attraction for cinema go-ers this summer.
However, the limelight in the fashion world seems to fall upon a genuinely awesome Austrian: Iris Strubegger, who not only landed herself as a part of the Great Gothic Gang in Givenchy‘s Fall/Winter 2009 ad campaign, but also as the sole cover star of Vogue Nippon‘s stellar September issue.
Dressed in Ralph Lauren‘s classic high-sheen backless dress, the 25-year-old model not only appears extremely elegant on the cover photographed by Inez and Vinoodh, but also genuinely fierce with her flaming maroon-red hair and her captivating expressions.
Ultimately, this is a combination that only this unique beauty with her renowned cheekbones could pull off.
Thus, this self-acclaimed simple girl from the Austrian mountains for sure outshines the counterfeit Austrian wannabe by miles and miles.
This is the Givenchy favorite‘s third Vogue Cover since her rise to fame; her career was sky rocketed to the moon, when casting director Russell Marsh casted her as the unforgettable first face at Dries Van Noten‘s Spring/Summer 2008 show in Paris.
She first appeared on Vogue Italia‘s grave and gloomy cover for August 2008, on which she shared with a sensational cast: Karen Elson, Linda Evangelista, Guinevere van Seenus and Willy van Rooy – photographed by Steven Meisel.
The second cover, which this superb Place Model graced, is a classic cruisy Chanel-inspired cover for Vogue Paris‘ mega March 2009 issue.
As usual, Vogue Nippon exercises their unique cover style by placing the stylish title text over the cover image, hence, concealing circa 20% of this totally stunning face.
On certain levels, this playful peek-a-boo effect each month – whether with the letter ”V”, ”O", ”G”, ”U” or ”E” – provokes us in all sorts of ways (mostly negative) that we wish it would go away; however, we are not sure if Vogue Nippon would stand out as much in the market if it succumbs to the usual industry practice.
The official release date for Vogue Nippon September 2009 is Tuesday, July 28 2009 a.k.a. tomorrow.
Watch out for the array of excellent editorials including LEXPOSURE.NET‘s favourites: Anja Rubik, Edita Vilkeviciute and Kinga Rajzak.
