Katlin Aas is what Beauty is all about
by Maud & Pénélope . posted on May 07, 2009Katlin’s debuts in London were spectacular and since she opened Christopher Kane, speculations about her future went higher and higher. It was quite relieving to see how she finally lived up to these expectations opening and closing Prada one week later then walking Miu Miu. For once, there was no smoke without a fire and what we saw was what we got in the end. A gorgeous season from day one to the last minute, a sensational way to start a career and a little bit of controversy to spice it up.
Controversy ? As always, we would say. There will always be people, even very serious ones, to have doubts regarding the latest Prada exclusive or runway darling. It’s no wonder: castings are subjective selections and runway reflections of a vision. It might be what makes them so interesting to analyse and what makes these girls so precious (turning into big favorites, all of a sudden). But if the process is inspiring, the results are even more important. When they are able to move the borders and change the rules.
A good exclusive girl for Prada has to set new standards or at least bring the right questions (and, if possible, answers) to the table. Katlin arrived on the stage with her combination of very pale skin and suprisingly darker hair, with that mixture of strength and delicacy. Nothing looks obvious or overwhelming with her look and nobody could have bet one cent on her before she walked Christopher Kane, Giles and Armand Basi (among others) in London. There is a real “shock of the new” with our Estonian lady, something that makes you leave the past behind and believe in the future. Much important these days. Much important coming from Prada. Let’s see how it will develop now but, whatever happens, Katlin has already left her own mark in the history of Beauty.
