A French Review of French Revue: Giedre & Co. by Thierry Le Goues
by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 16, 2009We never really remember it and that’s probably what makes it suprising and thrilling, again and again. But it’s a fact, French Revue de Modes is always released during fashion weeks. With its usual dozen of cover girls and distinctive aesthetic, it might be more like a semestrial delight than a relevant milestone for models. That’s maybe what we like with this magazine: its irrelevant models choice, made of favorites rather than hot faces of the moment. Of course most of the girls featured on the cover are currently doing well if not very, very well but many are simply brilliant and personal picks of the stylist or the photographer. It adds more spice to the whole story and makes any expectation completely impossible. If Sessilee Lopez seems to be a natural choice as she’s been gathering high level editorials almost endlessly, Ataui Deng looks more like a daring one. Or a real vision, much more about tomorrow than today. At least it makes you believe a little more in such a brilliant girl and makes you eager to see her next piece of work.
We picked the cover with Giedre Dukauskaite after hesitating for about ten minutes. Karmen Pedaru, Anna Gushina or Yulia Kharlapanova would have been great too but Giedre’s was not only visually perfect, not only the first one we had in our hands, it was also the girl we didn’t see during the week. It was on Wednesday morning and we didn’t know she was going to walk for Miu Miu the day after so our hearts both said Giedre, screamed Giedre and the mag was packed. Looking back to that moment, it just illustrates the strength of French with its bold choices that often turn out to be the good ones. Buy it today and see what happens tomorrow. Or the day after tomorrow as this seems to be the rule with fashion and models. Other covers include Arlenis Sosa, Liberty Ross, Ali Stephens, Aminata Niaria, Kendra Spears and Adriana Lima, all shot by Thierry Le Goues. The contents are very French. Stay tuned for more…
