A Tribe Of Fashion's Black Crows: Kendra, AJ & Roy in Dazed & Confused
by Rie Cau posted on June 17, 2009The temperatures are finally on the rise here in Berlin and that only has one consequence on us: a total release of our wild side as we sweat away.
Simultaneously published in the July 2009 issue of Jefferson Hack and Rankin‘s Dazed & Confused is an excellent editorial with what I think is an overly long title: ”Devoted to Its Occult and Its Faithful Black Crow, a Gang of Rebels is Born Swathed in Fur and Feathers”.
Nonetheless, the lengthy titled correctly states the essence of what photographer Mariano Vivanco has captured in this editorial: a distinctive youthful rebellious attitude – wild, independent and utterly free!
Styled by Nicola Formichetti, the editorial features a tribal pack of models – Kendra Spears, AJ Abualrub and Roy Pratt – dressed in a wild wardrobe of blackness and accessorised with a hippie punk-meets-grunge feather head band.
Animalia is naturally the theme of the editorial with a stellar cast of pieces in luxurious fur and leather.
The first outstanding piece we saw, which is worn throughout the editorial, is Ms. Spears and her tough boys kicking in fall/winter‘s hottest pair of heels: laced leather thigh-high boots from Louis Vuitton in high shine jet black. Kinky, fun and works great in the wild!
The second piece that made us turn our heads is a fur coat by Boss Black, which the piercing blue eyed doll wears in the photograph where Mr. Abualrub gives his play thing a savage piggy back ride possibly to the animal kingdom of primitive fashion.
As the British style magazine makes its own fashion statement with this rather untamed editorial, we are sure that the animal-friendly organisation, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, will be outraged.
The cover of Dazed & Confused’s July 2009 issue features the sole image of the fierce Ms. Spears.
Watch out for the All-American rising star in the upcoming Prada Fall/Winter 2009.10 advertising campaign, where she will share the glam page with fellow models Julia Hafstrom (recently shot by Steven Meisel In Vogue Italia June 2009), Ymre Stiekema (second season as Prada girl) and LEXPOSURE.NET‘s Top Ten Newcomer for Fall/Winter 2009, Katlin Aas.
