White Out The Future: Luize Salmgrieze In ELLE UK
by Rie Cau posted on June 12, 2009After ‘White Heat’ in Numéro and ‘White Wings’ in Vogue Nippon, it is with great pleasure that LEXPOSURE presents to you another July editorial entitled ”White Heat” in Elle UK, but please don‘t yawn, you will see that there is no need of it, because it is uniquely alluring in its quiet and quirky way.
Unlike the other previously mentioned editorial, this ”White Heat”, photographed by Thomas Nutzl, is shot in an exotic location, where wild cactus blooms. Ultimately, this deserted no man’s land is the perfect location for an editorial, which emphasises on an eccentric wardrobe, which mixes 1920s decadence with 1960s space-age.
Think the glamorous extravagant style evocative of the excessively stylish heroine Daisy Buchanan in F. Scott Fitzgerald‘s ‘The Great Gatsby’ – meeting a monochromic futurism and strong graphic shapes.
Fashion Director of ELLE Anne-Marie Curtis styled this editorial. She selected a range of all-white outfits in luxurious lace, feather, silk and organza. Naturally, the editorial features only of the extraordinary: this season‘s best white outfits with whimsical layers of fabrics cut in tribal shapes. The two outstanding outfits are: Christopher Kane‘s silk-organza skirt with scallop detailing and Marni‘s silk skirt with an optical lace of sophisticated circles, which captures a certain chasteness and surrealism in one.
The Fantastic element in ”White Heat” is perfectly embodied by the Latvian model Luize Salmgrieze, who appears like the fairy-tale figure of Rapunzel with her long golden hair glistening under the neverending sunshine in this exotic place.
The editorial is featured in Elle UK‘s July issue – the cover of which features actress Winona Ryder photographed by Dutch fashion and fine art photographer Matthias Vriens.
