Paris Part three: models review from Atsuro Tayama, Issey Miyake, Marithé+François Girbaud, Ann Demeulemeester and Givenchy
by Maud & Pénélope . posted on March 09, 2009Here comes our third part. Weekend review, from Friday morning till Sunday night. From Atsuro Tayama to Givenchy. Let’s start where we started, Palais de Tokyo. We went a bit late, just in time for the show. Natural light and white stairs were the first visual highlights of this day. Eniko was the second when she opened. So nice to see her again and again, after all these seasons in Paris. We remember her so well on her early days and couldn’t tell you enough how much she hasn’t changed, hasn’t lost anything of this raw energy and good vibrations that caught our attention at Guy Laroche two years ago. Other girls at Atsuro Tayama include Myf Shepherd, Constance Jablonski, Anna Gushina, Denisa Dvorakova, Kamila Filipcikova, Laura Blokhina, Georgie Baddiel or Imogen Morris-Clarke. Though, the two of them who really made a big impression were two girls we met for the first time: Ginta Lapina who was a personal darling of ours since we saw her walking in New York or Milan and Marlena Szoka. These two are fresh, if you know what we mean. Ready to conquer more runways but always cool. We love such an attitude.
Next one on our schedule is a big favorite. Issey Miyake. And, once again, we were in love with everything there. The clothes, the atmosphere, the ideas and the models. Everything is so naturally precious and clever plus the rythm was perfect. Julia Shvets (one of our Lexposed Faces) did the show for the second time and still looks like an iconic face for this kind of outfits. Laid-back and fierce. Walking it, wearing it. Good surprise was Shaina Danziger again, after meeting her for the first time at Estrella Archs on Wednesday night we saw her back here. Opening and closing. And also perfect as she really is, beautiful and charismatic with loads of personal style and the sweetest attitude. The kind of girls we admire on the runway and adore in backstages. The kind that makes the best pictures and leaves you with editorial expectations.
Same place but next day: Marithé + François Girbaud at the Louvre. Models were dancing on the runway and the casting was brilliant. Queeny Van Der Zande, Adama Diallo and Catheline (Lexposed Face) were just perfect performers and looked like a promising new generation here, just in time to help Omahyra Mota (still at her very best, season after season) to keep the mood alive. As it’s Girbaud, you can often expect some great redheads as well and we were impressed by Georgie Wass but she went away too fast and we didn’t manage to catch her after the show. Catheline lived up our expectations and is really as cool as she looks with tons of energy and the most lovely attitude in front of the camera. So clever when she talks about her career. Another one who will leave a mark this day is Mila, new face at Major Paris from Mimic Models in Moscow. Dark copper hair and delicate skin. Definitely the kind of shy girl you want to ask for more. Mysterious.
Ann Demeulemeester was for the first time on our schedule this season. we love the place, Couvent des Cordeliers and found there a nice café to get some warm drink while waiting. This is how time goes faster. The show itself was great, very Ann Demeulemeester. The casting too, very Ann Demeulemeester. Count Zuzana Gregorova, Tasha Tilberg Tallulah Morton or Kelli Lumi among the best ones there. Consistent and eclectic. Olya Omyalieva (from Avant Models in Moscow) was the most striking newcomer around and if she still lacks of confidence on the catwalk her face and expressions were perfect for this collection. Let’s talk about image. It’s all about image.
Last but not least, our Sunday highlight was Givenchy. Unfortunately no pictures, all went so fast. The wind, the rush, the rain. Shaking hands here, saying hello there and it’s over. Though, two interesting names at least. Well, more if you count Uliana Tikhova, Karmen Pedaru, Yulia Leontieva (Lexposed Face) or Ymre Stekiema but who really caught our attention were Nanou Vandecruys (now with Silent Models) and Polina Barbasova (just featured here before fashion week as the cover girl of Bon magazine). We were so glad to see these two, so good together, so great as a duet. Tuning the aesthetic of that FW 09-10 casting no matter who else was on the list. We ran back to our flat in the rainy weather, had a pizza and went to bed early. Monday and Tuesday are busy days.
