Nimue Smit: Building Up a Career
by Erik Pulles posted on March 31, 2009Cute as a button, beautifully doll-like and a versatile talent – those are just some ways to sum up how Nimue Smit is developing her career towards all the right directions. Careful management and supportive guidance by her mother agency in Holland – Code Management – landed her on board the Women Management express and from one important job to the next. When Nimue first popped up in the international modeling scene during the S/S 09 season, it was as a presence at Marni, as girl number three at Prada, and as opening girl for Miu Miu. No doubt, it was an excellent start for any career, but it’s always the question of how a girl carries her great first impression over into other successes that has more crucial bearing.
Soon, it was revealed that Nimue had no problem at all doing that, as she was photographed by Steven Meisel as one of the eight girls for the Prada SS09 campaign. Additionally, Nimue scored the Top Shop and Burberry Black Label campaigns. Then it was on to the magazine pages: Vogue Italia with Steven Meisel, UK Vogue with Lachlan Bailey, Numero with Paolo Roversi – who shot her for the Vogue Italia couture supplement of March as well – which made for a beyond-impressive list. She has proved in these eds and campaigns that she can be the cute doll, the architectual miracle, the sexy glamazon, the quirky cool kid or the couture princess. In other words, Nimue is super versatile.
Luckily, international clients responded just as positive during the FW09 fashion weeks. She chameleoned her way from runway to runway, switching from being a 40’s woman at Donna Karan to portraying modern decadence at Lanvin; and from playing primitively fashionable at Prada to looking fashion forward at Rodarte. In the end, her first full runway season was a major success, with a grand total of 41 shows to be added to her resumé. But aside from appearing at the shows that are supposedly the shows to appear in as a new girl (Calvin Klein, Jil Sander), Nimue was also able to permeate into the starpacked casts of shows like Michael Kors and Zac Posen, making her the only new girl of the line-up.
Thanks to her versatile capabilities, loveable personality, and looks perfect for this day and age, it has become evident within the past few months that this girl will stick around for a while – hopefully winning over more and more clients so that she can continue developing into a full-on top model. Building up a respectable career as a model is hard to do, but Nimue shows all the signs of being on her way to accomplish just that.
